He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and in particular, telecommunications. In 1877 he invented a Phonograph and a recorder. In 1928 he received the medal of Gold of the Congress of Unites States “for the development and the application of inventions that have revolutionized the civilization in the last century”. Edison died on October 18, 1931 in West Orange, New Jersey.
